Do I need SSL?
Well, let’s start with finding out what SSL is.
Based on Wikipedia article SSL it is a cryptographic protocol that is designed to communicate securely over the Internet, or in other words, it’s the standard security technology that encrypts a connection between a web browser of an end user and web server (where a website is located). SSL ensures that the data between the web browser and server remain integral and private.
For this to work, you’ll need to have SSL Certificate. How to get it and how to install it, I’ll tell you next time, or shot me an email, and I will assist you with it.
Now, let’s see how else SSL Certificate can be useful to you.
Search Engine Optimisation and Ranking
Having SSL Certificate installed on your website helps with your website ranking, not that it would boost it significantly, but it will definitely help!
Payment and Login Information - Security
If you do have a payment gateway setup on your website, you just must have SSL Certificate to be setup, otherwise, you’re at risk that personal data and most importantly, a credit card information of your customers can be stolen.
Most SSL Certificates also do provide an insurance, in case a data loss still took place, so you’ll be covered.
Customer Trust is an important factor when it comes to buying online. For example, I would never buy anything from a website that doesn’t have SSL Certificate installed.
What about if you don’t sell anything? Well, it still creates some level of trust, as many of us are aware of what https:// means.
It’s not hard to setup, it’s free in some cases, and it’s definitely worth it. Don’t skip it and ask your IT / web guy for an immediate SSL Certificate setup, or email me 😉
